A national system for monitoring the agricultural season and agro-meteorological prediction of cereal crops, called "CGMS-MOROCCO" (Crop Growth Monitoring System - Morocco), was initiated by the National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA) The framework of the E-AGRI project. CGMS-MAROC is managed by INRA and managed in a formal consortium with the Direction de la Météorologie Nationale (DMN) and the Strategy and Statistics Department (DSS). The development of CGMS-MOROCCO has been possible thanks to technological collaboration with international research institutions: the Flemish Institute for Research and Technology (VITO), the Joint Research Center of the European Union (JRC ), The Research Institute of the University of Wageningen (Alterra) and the University of Milan (UNIMI). CGMS-MOROCCO is thus the first operational system to monitor the agricultural campaign and agrometeorological prediction of cereal crops in Morocco, institutionalized by a strategic partnership that allows its development and sustainability.
CGMS-MOROCCO monitors crop development based on meteorological conditions, soil characteristics and crop parameters.
The CGMS-MOROCCO consists of three levels:
Level 1: The collection of meteorological data and their interpolation on a square grid of 9x9 km throughout the national territory;
Level 2: Simulation of crop growth, using several models of agrometeorological simulations;
Level 3: Predicting crops using a combined approach, using both parametric and non-parametric statistical analyzes of meteorological data, simulation data and satellite data.
